Kaya FC Academy Updates: June 16–22

Kaya family,

Here are a few updates from last week and what to look out for this week:

Mini World Cup

Thank you for everyone who came out to participate in our Mini World Cup on Saturday—it was great that everyone got into the spirit of the competition and we witnessed some wonderful football!

Kaya Elite

With 5 of our 11 teams in the post-season play-offs, we had mixed results in the UFL Youth quarterfinals. Our two girls teams lost in tough games, Kaya Black losing to Agila and Kaya yellow losing to Army, despite leading for much of the game. Our U11s took an early lead through Renard Yu in their game vs Pachanga, but two goals from dubious free-kicks left us trailing going into the dying moments and as Coach Diego’s team pushed for an equalizer, we were caught on the break to lose the game 3–1. Coach Diego’s team had won their previous 6 games so it was disappointing to exit the competition earlier than expected. But they can be proud of their efforts over the season as they played some fantastic football.

Our U9s & U17s, however, went through to the semifinals vs Loyola and Global, respectively. Goals for Teo Celdran and Juan Camahort gave us the 2–1 victory and saw us match up with Xavier school—who they themselves have a number of Kaya trainees. Our U17s demolished Global, 7–0, as they continue their march to defend the U17 title they won last year. The 17s featured Niño Herrera, who this week made his full debut for the Kaya men’s team—he second to do so this month following teammate Rocky Plaza making his debut vs Green Archers. Congratulations to Niño who has made great strides this past year and we look forward to seeing more youth team players progress this season.

I spoke with some of the Elite parents this week and training will be ongoing for the remainder of the month on Monday and Friday as per the normal schedule. Please continue to train with the team as we look to develop our players in the upcoming months for tournaments and competitions later this year.

The weekly schedule for academy sessions continue as per the normal schedule.

I think that is it for now. We will update with the game schedule for the weekend games when they are released. If you have any further questions, you can always reach out to me.
